The Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District Commission is seeking an Executive Director. The District was formed by the California Legislature and a 1973 Humboldt County Initiative and our mission is to “serve all of the people of Humboldt County by promoting harbor use, enhancing recreational opportunities and protecting bay and tidal environments.” The Executive Director is responsible for the District’s overall leadership and management, and works in conjunction with an elected Board of Commissioners to develop and accomplish long term goals for the District. The Executive Director will provide supervision and leadership to a staff of 12 and is responsible for creating a positive and inclusive work environment that fosters teamwork and a passion for serving the people of Humboldt County. The Executive Director also is responsible for the District’s compliance with finance, environmental and other regulations; and for relations with District customers and prospects, community and industry associations, the District’s attorney and business advisers, and the public.
Candidates must possess a track record of demonstrated leadership, proven accomplishments and superior performance in management of large complex programs, dealing with government agencies on environmental permitting, grant acquisition, financial planning and budgeting and coordinating stakeholder involvement. A minimum of a four-year college degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Planning, Science or a similar field is required, although an advanced degree in these fields would be even more desirable. Five years of director port management may be substituted for undergraduate degree. Similarly, a minimum of seven years in a supervisory position is required, but longer experience is a plus. Additionally, candidates must possess outstanding interpersonal and communications skills. Ideal candidates would have extensive experience.
