This position is for a design
technician skilled in advanced drafting at the Midland Development Corporation
depending on business need and applicant’s qualifications.

Performs advanced drafting and calculations
and intermediate design work; performs field work; uses automated systems and
learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed
professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority
for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on
assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties Include:
advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops
graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
Performs intermediate design work
quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and construction estimates.
roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
Prepares public presentations and exhibits.
entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and
correlation of plans and specifications.
Writes general notes, specifications and provisions
Drives to conduct project site visits and attend coordination
work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.
additional automated design tools, interactive graphics or specialized design
procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management,
geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and utility design.

Required Competencies Include:
engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and

procedures, to include skill in the use of Open Roads Designer and / or AutoCAD
reviewing and revising documents to include engineering notes, specifications,

Minimum Education Required:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Minimum Work Experience Required:
4 years in drafting, design, plan
(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or
prorated part-time equivalent)
No supervisory experience required.
Related college education or relevant
technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.
