This position is for one or more Design Technician / Engineering
Specialist(s) at the Midland Development Corporation depending on business need
and applicants' qualifications.

Performs highly advanced and complex detailed
transportation and municipal infrastructure design. Develops transportation and
infrastructure project planning documents, supporting permit submissions and
construction plans. Provides technical expertise and coordination for multiple
infrastructure and/or transportation programs involving design, building
construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic
operations, municipal infrastructure projects and facilities, in accordance
with City, State, National and industry standards. Work requires contact with
governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities.
Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all
unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations
in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include
distinctive design features.
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies
and construction estimates.
Prepares roadway design, infrastructure design, small
drainage structures details, traffic control plans, lighting details, signal
details, signs summaries, markings layouts, and building plans.
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and
calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Uses additional automated design tools, interactive
graphics or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert
detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design,
retaining walls and utility design.
Reviews and revises Plans, Specifications & Estimates
(P.S.& E.) and project designs for transportation and infrastructure
projects to include utilities, streets, small drainage
structures, traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic
control plans, and roadway illumination.
Ensures compliance with specifications for devices; safety
laws, rules, and regulations; the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices,
and City Standards.
Drives to conduct project site visits and attend
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Considerable knowledge of applicable plans, specifications
and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
Considerable knowledge of design and plan preparation
methods and requirements
Working knowledge of The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic
Proficient skill in the use of personal computers and
applicable programs, applications and systems
Advanced and specialized design / drafting
procedures, to include skill in the use of Open Roads Designer and / or AutoCAD
Proficient skill in maintaining a safe working environment
Ability to communicate effectively
Proficient skill in maintaining effective working
relationships with others
Proficient skill in writing, reviewing and revising
documents to include engineering notes, specifications, standards and

design programs and computer-assisted design/engineering systems.
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline
Relevant Work Experience
